Daily Piat

Your daily dose of Piat: silly, irreverent, thoughtful, contemplative, serious, funny, nutty, colorful.

I read an article recently about secrets and confession.  There is a human compulsion to share because we want acknowledgment, reconciliation, or to have the possibility of redemption.  Though, as in this video sometimes it’s really just about fun and connection.

What a fabulous and touching idea!

The Russian Empire in Color: Photography from 1909 - 1912
We are so used to black and white photography from the early 1900s, that it almost comes as a shock when you see these beautiful pictures by photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii (1863-1944). “He took three black and white images in fairly quick succession, using red, green and blue filters, allowing them to later be recombined and projected with filtered lanterns to show near true color images. Above a few of the hundred images made available by the Library of Congress, which purchased the original glass plates back in 1948.”

Best Pictures Of A Baby Elephant Playing At A Beach Of All Time

My heart just melted and I died. RIP.

Oh my!

Elephants deserve a day at the beach too.

Interlude

As some of you know, this 8 week transformational course is a trial so that it can be improved for the next round.

We haven’t received any new exercises, so I haven’t been able to post anything new.

As a consequence, I am feeling a bit of a void in my mindfulness every morning.  So, I resolve to read something today that will return me to that mode while we wait for our next assignment.

Touching, beautiful story about Fiona, a little blind dog that was living in a pile of trash but got rescued.  I had tears of sadness for how cruel the world can be to the most innocent of creatures.  But, I also had tears of joy for her strength, resilience, and rehabilitation.

Rescue people are amazing too.  I would love to work making animals’ lives better, but I am not sure if I could take the emotional strain of the actual rescue part.  I am awed and inspired that perhaps there might be something I can do?

Really, the best part was that Fiona got a caring home and that she’ll spend the rest of days with warmth, food, and love.

I realized that in order to receive love or react to love creatures and humans alike have to learn to receive it.  If you don’t get it often in your life you’ll react to love and tenderness with suspicion.  I saw this in Fiona’s first reaction to the rescuers, but eventually she learned to receive love.  It was evident in the trust and joy that was on her face at the end of the video.

How can we touch someone’s life so that they can better learn to receive?
